Leopard Gecko Leopard geckos, go by the scientific name of Eublepharis macularius. With their popularity increasing year by year, leopard geckos make brilliant pets and are easy to breed. Many colour variations have been bred overseas and, sadly, only a few exquisite specimens have been bred in South Africa. Leopard Geckos get their name from the yellow background colour and the many black spots that appear on the entire body of the gecko.

Leopard Gecko Leopard geckos reach sexual maturity at 18 months, provided they are fed adequately and attain the right weight. Leopard geckos eat meal worms, supa worms, crickets, cockroaches and pinkies. It is important to ensure that these geckos obtain enough calcium in their diet,so it is recommended that a little tub of calcium powder be left in the cage for the geckos to lick when needed. Full spectrum ultraviolet lighting is essential for maximum growth and success with these cuties.

Leopard Gecko Two or more males will fight if kept in the same cage, and experience from different breeders has found that the best ratio of males to females is 1:5. When mature, the female lays between 1-2 small eggs at a time but can lay up to 12 eggs in a season. If you want an attractive, cute, economical, low maintenance pet, then Leopard Geckos are for you.
